Middlesbrough have completed the signing of defensive midfielder Marten de Roon from Serie A side Atalanta.
The 25-year-old Dutchman impressed during his one season in Italy, having started out at Sparta Rotterdam and then Heerenveen.
De Roon joins Viktor Fischer and Bernardo Espinosa at the Riverside Stadium as manager Aitor Karanka prepares his squad for life back in the Premier League.
Middlesbrough said on their official club website the transfer fee paid for De Roon would remain undisclosed, but it is believed to be around £12m.
De Roon admitted he was looking forward to the challenges ahead.
He posted on his official Twitter page: “Really happy with my transfer to Middlesbrough! Let’s make a good season in the Premier League. Come on The Boro!”
