Mo’ money, mo’ ‘f*cked-up situations’ for Morata
Chelsea star Alvaro Morata has reflected upon the “f*cked-up situations” that footballers experience with their wealth.
The striker joined Chelsea in 2017 from Real Madrid in a deal worth around £58million but the Spaniard has struggled to produce consistent form during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Putting into the shade his problems on the pitch, Morata has recently become a father to twins, which has helped the 25-year-old find some perspective.
In an interview with El Mundo, Morata reflected on his life as a footballer and the problems his wealth and high-profile brings.
He said: “A lot of the time, money and fame can be a problem. There are a lot of people who think we have an enviable life or that we have more privileges than other people.
“But sometimes, money can cause problems with friends, which has happened to me.
“It can go all the way to your family and people don’t take that into account. Money helps, of course, but it can also take a lot of things away from you. Footballers don’t normally have experience with money. I’m not talking about investments and businesses.
“It’s difficult at our age to have a friend who’s having a hard time because of decisions he’s taken in his life, and you’re the one who has to save him, and saying no is difficult.
“But if you do it once, you then have to do it twice, and then three times. Even if you have the money, they are f***ed-up situations.”
