Moises Caicedo January plea condemned by respected teammate, in reproving statement on saga

Ecuador captain Enner Valencia has condemned the actions of Moises Caicedo in begging Brighton to sell him, revealing he was going to tell him not to post his plea to the club.

Brighton’s January transfer window was an eventful one. In terms of incomings, it was fairly quiet, with only youngsters Yasin Ayari and Facundo Buonanotte heading through the entrance.

It was on the outgoings front that most of the noise was made. Joint-top goalscorer Leandro Trossard left for Arsenal for around £27million.

There were also reports of interest in Alexis Mac Allister, though he stayed put. Most of the headlines were dominated by a potential move for midfield player Caicedo.

Arsenal’s interest led them to make two bids, the first reportedly of £55million and the second of £70million.

While Brighton seemed adamant they weren’t planning on selling, that didn’t stop the midfielder for pleading with them to let him go in a statement posted on social media.

The decision for Caicedo to post his plea has been questioned, and he’ll likely think it over himself, given he has remained at the Amex.

The reception from those close to him will likely tell him it might not have been the best way to go about things. Indeed, his Ecuador captain, Valencia, has revealed he was going to tell advise him against it.

“I looked up Moises’ number and I was going to call him. I was ready to do it,” says Valencia,” he said on marca90.

“But then I started to think and said; ‘No, I’m going to leave him alone’. Because there are times when you want to be calm, clear your mind and think things alone with your family.

“If Moises had talked to me before, I would have told him not publish what he published.”

While he didn’t go through with it, allowing Caicedo to make his own choice, that Valencia was considering it shows that it was a poor idea. The assessment from such a respected teammate will surely give Caicedo clarity and make him think about how he conducts himself in future.

In any case, Valencia seemingly believes the midfielder is destined for big things in his career.

“We all want him to do very well for the kind of person that he is. Because of how hard-working he is. And because of the great player that we all know he is,” Valencia added.
