Alberto Moreno says Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp made him no promises and told him he was going to sign another left-back in the summer.
The defender is currently with the Spain squad having received a surprise recall after an impressive start to the season with the Reds that has including nine starts in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old moved to Anfield three years ago from Sevilla for €18million, but his time appeared to be up before the start of the current campaign.
Klopp drafted in Andrew Robertson from Hull in the summer to add competition to James Milner at left-back, but Moreno has insisted he never thought of leaving and has nailed down the position as his own this season.
Moreno told Marca: “My idea was to stay, to work and to win back my place. I saw myself as capable. I spoke to (Jurgen) Klopp, he told me that he could not promise me anything, to work, and that they were going to a sign a No.3 left-back.
“There I thought that something was wrong. I spoke to my people and they told me to work, to start from scratch and then we’ll see. And here we are.”
Moreno, who made just two Premier League starts last term, has just been recalled to the Spanish national team for their forthcoming friendlies such has been his renaissance.
