Newcastle in for Mason Mount

Mason Mount has asked himself three questions after a downturn in performances for Chelsea this season, as a ‘hidden’ reason (which definitely actually wasn’t hidden) for Liverpool’s interest in the England international has been revealed.

Mount has managed just three goals and two assists in the Premier League this season, compared to 11 goals and ten assists last term.

It’s been a struggle for Chelsea in general this season, with huge changes to the playing and backroom staff at Stamford Bridge resulting in a significant downturn in performances and results.

The Blues are through to the Champions League quarter-finals where they will take on Real Madrid, but were dumped out of both domestic cup competitions early and are languishing in tenth spot in the Premier League.

Mount explained that he hopes to “grow a lot” as a result of his and the club’s disappointing season, and has asked himself three questions as he looks to finish this season well and start the next campaign on the right foot.

“It’s been tough and I think you learn a lot from a season like this and you can grow a lot. Maybe I’m not going to achieve the goals I set at the beginning of this year,” Mount told the Evening Standard.

“You look at it like: Why did that happen? How can I affect that for next year? How can I do better?

“We’ve still got some more to go and hopefully another competition to try and win.”

Mount’s dip in form has coincided with contract negotations at Chelsea, which have been far from smooth.

Reports of Mount demanding £300,000 per week have been rubbished, but it’s claimed player and club are yet to agree on the length of the contract and the salary.

Chelsea are said to want £70m for Mount, and though Bayern Munich, Juventus, Arsenal and Manchester United are all thought to be interested, it’s Liverpool that have made most progress.

The Athletic state: ‘Significant conversations have taken place over a prospective move, with Liverpool already giving proper consideration to what kind of contract they could offer to persuade the player to join them’.

And Liverpool World have put forward a ‘hidden’ reason as to why Liverpool hold such an interest, which if it has been hiding (it hasn’t) it has been doing so in plain sight.

Mason Mount is a homegrown player. Sneaky.
