Former Inter Milan and Sampdoria fitness coach Stefano Rapetti is set to join Manchester United’s new-look backroom team, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho is looking to shake-up his staff following the departure of his assistant manager Rui Faria, who is looking to have some time out with his family before pursuing his career as a manager.

The Daily Mail claims that Rapetti will be brought in to help fill part of the hole left behind by Faria after being invited to link up with Mourinho again.

He worked with the Portuguese coach at Inter when he was promoted from the Under 19s to work with the first-team squad.

Mourinho has promoted Man United Under 18s coach Kieran McKenna to the first-team set-up, while former England international Michael Carrick has been added to his staff following the end of his playing career.

Mourinho has tipped Carrick to eventually become an assistant manager at United but in the meantime he wouldn’t reveal the name of his next right-hand man.

When asked if he could shed light on his new assistant, Mourinho said: “No. It’s a person coming who worked with me before but I can’t say the name because he’s still linked to another club.

“Michael Carrick becomes a coach on the pitch but I’m looking for two new people on the team. Good coaches there are many, but I like to make my assistants.

“I do not like trained coaches, I like to shape them in my way of thinking and they grow with me and I also grow with them.”
