Jose Mourinho has explained how he and Mauricio Pochettino are “different”.

Pochettino remains the favourite to replace Mourinho as permanent Manchester United manager.

The Portuguese was removed from his post at Old Trafford after a poor start to the season, with Pochettino’s Tottenham one of the many clubs to establish a sizeable points lead over last campaign’s runners up.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Mourinho says that he and Pochettino are “different”, particularly in their attitude towards silverware.

Asked whether he gets more “satisfaction” from having finished second “with that group” in 2017/18 or winning two trophies and coming sixth the season before, Mourinho simply replied: “No doubt, winning the trophies.

“No doubt, winning the trophies.”

When put to him that Pochettino must therefore be “wrong” in his claims that trophies are not the only measure of success, Mourinho said: “No, I’m not saying that he’s wrong. He’s different than me.

“He thinks different than me or the day he starts winning trophies he changes his communication.

“One thing I can say is I like him very much as a person, I like him very much as a coach. No doubt about it. So I’m not being a critic at all. I’m just saying that maybe he is different than me and I accept that token. Maybe he is different than me.”
