Jose Mourinho has hinted at the identity of the his new assistant at Manchester United.

Rui Faria leaves United this summer after 17 years working alongside Mourinho and it was thought that the Portuguese would work without an assistant.

But he has now confirmed that he will be joined by a new assistant, as well as player-turned coach Michael Carrick.

Asked whether Rui Faria would be replaced by another Portuguese coach, Mourinho told Record, as translated by Sport Witness: “No. It’s a person coming who worked with me before but I can’t say the name because he’s still linked to another club.

“Michael Carrick becomes a coach on the pitch but I’m looking for two new people on the team. Good coaches there are many, but I like to make my assistants.

“I do not like trained coaches, I like to shape them in my way of thinking and they grow with me and I also grow with them.”
