Jose Mourinho insisted he is “not selfish” while pointing out Tottenham would be fourth in the Premier League had the competition started when he took over in November.
Mourinho has had an up and down start to his Spurs career, but the results at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have undoubtedly improved following his arrival at the club.
The Portuguese boss was asked how important it is for Tottenham to qualify for Europe next season, and he couldn’t resist “looking at things in a selfish way”, before insisting that he – of course – is “not selfish”…
Mourinho said: “I would love it to happen. Looking at things in a selfish way, since I started we are fourth. And that would mean even with all the problems that we have – injuries, injuries, injuries.
“But I am not selfish, I am just for Tottenham.
“The team was tired before we even started. We had resilience and a great desire to win the match and to fight until the last for our objective, which is the Europa League.
“If we cannot get the Champions League then the Europa League is important.”
We could not keep away from the camera for long so we made a Football365 Isolation Show. Watch it, subscribe and share until we get back in the studio/pub and produce something a little slicker…
