Mourinho safe as Man Utd boss for immediate future

Jose Mourinho’s job as Manchester United manager is safe for now after the club’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Sunday, according to reports.

The defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s side was the Red Devils’ fifth of the season and the result means they have only won twice in eight matches in all competitions.

The matches they have won in that sequence were against Fulham – who are currently bottom of the Premier League – and a narrow 1-0 win over Young Boys to secure their Champions League qualification.

It is now Man United’s worst start to a season since 1990 and Mourinho‘s side now have a goal difference of zero in the league.

The loss to their arch-rivals has led to more talk surrounding Mourinho’s future with Michael Owen not expecting a turnaround unless “something changes“.

However, the Guardian claim that the change is unlikely to be Mourinho with the newspaper reporting that Mourinho will ‘remain in place’ for the immediate future.

Mourinho now has a whole week of training to prepare his side for their next match against Cardiff City, before home matches against Huddersfield Town and Bournemouth.

By the time United face Newcastle United on January 2, observers will have a good idea as to whether Mourinho’s men have a chance of making the top four.
