Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says that he is impressed by Eric Bailly’s attitude, and wants to keep him at the club.

Bailly has been at United for two years, but has started just 35 league games after issues with injuries and selection.

With United now linked with numerous central defenders, there was a concern that Bailly could be phased out. That now seems less likely.

“Bailly was not going to play,” Mourinho said.

“But when he saw that Smalling in the warm-up was leaving, he decided by himself he did not want another kid on the pitch

“He is a team boy, he is a great boy. He is an honest man, always ready to give everything for the team.

“That is why we have him, why we still have him and why he is going to stay with us because football teams need people like him, like Herrera.

“This kind of people where the club is more important than anything else.”
