Mourinho ‘scouts Dortmund’s Witsel’ during Belgium match

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho scouted Borussia Dortmund’s Axel Witsel when he attended the midfielder’s latest international appearance, according to reports.

It was widely reported that Mourinho was at Belgium’s victory over Iceland on Friday night to watch long-term target Toby Alderweireld.

However, Belgium publication Het Laatste Nieuws claims that, instead of watching the Tottenham centre-back, he was actually there to make a personal check on Witsel.

Witsel moved to Germany in the summer after a brief spell at Tianjin Quanjian in China – where he went in 2017 after ending his four-year stay at Zenit St Petersburg.

The 29-year-old has been in great form for Dortmund this season as the German side sit top of the Bundesliga with fierce rivals Bayern Munich way back in fifth place.
