Mourinho to target £180m quartet ‘over next year’

Jose Mourinho has identified the four players he wants Manchester United to sign over the next two transfer windows.

Mourinho oversaw £145.3million worth of investment during his first summer at United, which included a record-breaking fee spent on midfielder Paul Pogba.

But United have started the Premier League season in rather underwhelming fashion, and they sit sixth after 17 games.

Leaders Chelsea are currently 13 points ahead of the Reds, while four points separate them from fourth-placed Arsenal.

It was claimed last month that Mourinho ‘believes he needs at least two transfer windows‘ to ‘return Manchester United’s squad to a level expected of the club’, and the Daily Telegraph now have news as to who the manager would like to target.

According to James Ducker, the name of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann tops the list. The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, and it is thought that they must meet his £84million release clause.

Next are Benfica defenders Victor Lindelof and Nelson Semedo. Lindelof has been a long-term target, and is expected to join the club in January. The Sweden centre-half has even been endorsed by countryman Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Semedo is a right-back, is likely to cost around £25m, and will be pursued in the summer.

The fourth and final player to be targeted is Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko. The 22-year-old has made 15 Ligue Un appearances this season, and would cost at least £35m.
