Moyes addresses rumours West Ham have signed Fernandes

David Moyes claims Gedson Fernandes is just “one name” that West Ham “are talking about” as they look to strengthen their side in the January transfer window.

His comments come amid reports on Sky Sports that the Hammers have ‘agreed a deal in principle’ to sign Benfica midfielder Fernandes on an 18-month loan deal.

Initial rumours had claimed that West Ham would have an ‘obligation to buy for £33m’ but the latest report indicates there would be no such option to buy.

Sky Sports add that ‘Benfica are said to be more favourable of West Ham’s latest offer’ than Chelsea’s 18-month loan offer with an obligation to purchase the player for £55m.

However, Moyes would neither confirm or deny the speculation on Thursday but he did say Fernandes has “good pedigree”.

Ahead of West Ham’s clash against Sheffield United on Friday night, Moyes said: “We’re linked with lots of players. He’s one name which we are talking about. I couldn’t tell you since I have come into training and to the press conference.

“More importantly, he’s a young player for the future and good pedigree.”
