Moyes: Klopp’s Liverpool ‘not quite as good’ as Rafa’s Reds

David Moyes has his doubts over whether Liverpool’s current team is not as good as Rafael Benitez’s side featuring Steven Gerrard, XAbi Alonso and Fernando Torres.
Liverpool’s record-breaking start to the season was confirmed with a 3-0 win over Southampton at Anfield on Saturday – their sixth straight win – to leave them two points clear of Chelsea and Man City. They now have strength in depth as well as an excellent first XI.
But Moyes, 55, played down the hopes of Jurgen Klopp’s men and claimed the previous side under Benitez, which also included Javier Mascherano, was a better outfit.
The former Everton and Manchester United boss, speaking on Goals on Sunday, was asked whether he thought Jurgen Klopp’s men had the capability to win the title this season.
Moyes, with a smile, said “No, I don’t think so.
“I think they’ve got a really good team, but you look back at teams over the years at Liverpool and they had great teams, when it was Alonso, Mascherano, Gerrard and Torres up front.
“This is a good Liverpool team as well – I don’t know if it’s quite as good as that team at that time. They’re playing a good style, with forward players who are exceptional, and because of that I think they’re a real threat.”
