Moyes ‘open’ to speaking with Saints over manager’s job

David Moyes is open to speaking with Southampton over their vacant managerial role, according to reports.

The Saints sacked Mark Hughes on Monday morning after a terrible start to the season that has seen them win one match in their first 14 Premier League matches.

That return sees them sitting in the relegation zone in 18th position despite a decent point against Manchester United in a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

And Sky Sports now reports that their sources have told them that Moyes – who has been out of work since May – ‘is keen on a return to the Premier League’ and would be ‘open’ to talks with the Saints.

However, the report makes it clear there have been no discussions between the two parties yet.

Moyes took over West Ham in the Premier League relegation zone last term before he left in May after leading them to Premier League survival.

Former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson and his former assistant Craig Shakespeare are both said to be ‘interested’ in the role.

Meanwhile, Paulo Sousa and Quique Sanchez Flores are currently the two favourites with the bookies to become Hughes’ successor.
