Neville bemoans ‘desperate’ Arsenal moment; claims six players can cost them Premier League title

Gary Neville thinks six Manchester City players are capable of “pushing on” to ensure that Arsenal do not win the Premier League title this season.

Arsenal have been one of this season’s surprise packages in the Premier League as they are mounting a serious challenge for the title.

The Gunners went through a blip last month as they only managed to pick up one point in games against Everton, Brentford and Man City. The defeat to the latter saw Pep Guardiola’s side close the gap on their rivals.

Mikel Arteta’s team have responded since these setbacks, though. They battled back from behind to beat Aston Villa before they earned three points at The King Power Stadium against Leicester City.

Arsenal will move five points clear of Man City if they win their game in hand, which is against Everton at the Emirates on Wednesday night.

Neville has regularly written off Arsenal this season and he has done that again during the latest video on The Overlap.

The Man Utd legend feels that the likes of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne could make a difference for City in the title race.

“Arsenal have struggled in latter parts of seasons, with last season the most recent example of this. This is why Manchester City will win the Premier League,” Neville told The Overlap.

“Because when it gets to the last 10 games, Arsenal will start to panic a little bit, the anxiety will kick in, pressure builds.

“If Arsenal do it and win the league it will be an unbelievable achievement, but they haven’t been around the block like Manchester City.

“When it gets to the final 10 games and it really kicks in – [Kevin] De Bruyne, [Erling] Haaland, [Ruben] Dias, [Ilkay] Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Kyle Walker – these guys who have been there before, they’ll push on. But there are teams who get over the line for the first time and this could be the year for Arsenal.”

Arsenal were mocked by some after they celebrated a lot after beating Aston Villa 4-2. Neville thinks the club’s players showed “too much emotion” and that is “not a good thing”.

“It’s too much emotion, too early for Arsenal,” Neville added. “To be that desperate and to celebrate that much with half the race still to go, it’s not a good thing.

“After the Aston Villa game, I can understand how big of a moment it was, but that level of celebration was quite desperate, quite early.

“There was a lot of celebrations at the end of the game. The emotions are something that’s a negative, it’s not a positive for me in a title race.”
