Neville insists Man Utd need two signings this week or they will be under ‘real pressure’
Gary Neville has insisted that Manchester United need to make two more signings before the transfer window shuts or they could be under ‘real pressure’.
The Reds have had a solid transfer window, but they are in need of some more additions before deadline day.
Erik ten Hag has added the likes of Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund, but he is still keen to sign a left back and holding midfielder.
Man Utd haven’t looked overly convincing in the Premier League so far and Ten Hag will be well aware of how important squad depth could be this season.
With the club back in the Champions League this season, squad depth will be more important than ever.
Neville is adamant that the club will need to address the issues they have at left back and in midfield before the window shuts.
“I think they have to try and do something in the transfer market this week. They have got to try and get players out. Some clubs get players out really well – United don’t tend to get players out really well,” he said on the Gary Neville Podcast.
“They’ve got better players in this summer but there’s no doubt they want another player or two – a left-back and a central midfield player.
“I think they need that or else they’re going to be put under real pressure, particularly when all the other competitions kick in.
“There is another one or two players needed just to beef up the squad because of injuries. He does want another midfield player in there to sit alongside Casemiro, so it’s an important week for United before Arsenal [on Sunday].”
With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia currently out injured, Man Utd are looking for a quick-fix solution at left-back.
The likes of Marc Cucurella and Sergio Reguilon are both being considered by Man Utd at this stage.
Elsewhere, they are still looking to sign a new holding midfielder to compete with Casemiro. This is arguably their biggest priority as the Man Utd midfield hasn’t looked up to scratch so far.
Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat has been a target for Man Utd all summer, but the club are yet to agree a deal with the Italian club.
Man Utd are now said to be considering a shock move for Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after his move to Atletico Madrid fell through.
It should be a busy week at Old Trafford as the club could also sanction several exit deals too.
