Gary Neville believes that Jose Mourinho may sacrifice Manchester United’s participation in the FA Cup.
United are sixth in the Premier League and may well need to win the Europa League to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
That leaves Mourinho’s squad facing fixture congestion towards the end of the season, something United’s manager has already bemoaned.
Speaking to Omnisport, Neville believes that Mourinho could see FA Cup exit as welcome news:
“It comes down to what Mourinho prioritises. The FA Cup could be a competition that United sacrifice because they have to try and get into the Champions League.
“Obviously the only two routes are the Europa League and Premier League games.
“It will be a big challenge mentally on Monday. It might be the one, at this moment in time, that they can sacrifice in terms of trying not to complicate the fixture congestion any more.”
