Chelsea's German maestros will cause opponents a lot of problems this season according to the Saints boss...

New Chelsea signings Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have been praised heavily by Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The Blues conceded late on to drop points against Southampton on Saturday. Jannik Vestergaard scored in the 92nd minute to make it 3-3.

But one of the main takeaways from Saturday’s game was the performances of Werner and Havertz. Werner got his first goals for his new club thanks to a brace before Havertz scored Chelsea’s third.

Havertz and Werner came in as part of Chelsea’s mass summer recruitment that totalled over £200m. Havertz was signed from Bayer Leverkusen for around £70m, while Werner joined from RB Leipzig for a fee in the region of £47m.

Both players have been shining lights in the Bundesliga in recent years. Havertz was involved in 38 goals from just 64 league outings over the last two campaigns.

Werner enjoyed four brilliant years with RB Leipzig. He scored 95 goals for them from 159 appearances in all competitions. His best season personally came last year, as he bagged 28 times from 34 Bundesliga games.

Both players are key components of Frank Lampard’s new vision at Chelsea. Hasenhuttl was full of praise for each player when he was speaking post-match:

“I knew the moment would come that he scored his first goal in the Premier League. I hoped it would not be against us.

“When you give him space, it’s hard to defend against him. The first goal we made it too easy for him. It’s tough to defend against him. When you are not tight on Timo and Kai Havertz they will kill you.

“But I am really happy that Timo is in England and playing in the Premier League. He’s fantastic for the fans, but it’s good we took a point as otherwise, I wouldn’t be so happy for him.”
