Newcastle ‘already trying’ to bring German superstar to England
Newcastle United are making attempts to convince Thomas Muller to leave Bayern Munich for St James’ Park in the summer, according to reports.
The Germany international has spent his entire career in Bavaria, scoring 223 goals in 610 appearances for Die Roten.
In 14 seasons at the club he has helped them to ten Bundesliga titles, six German Cups, seven German Super Cups, two Champions Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups.

But now Muller – who has 110 caps for Germany – could face a big decision over his future with his contract running down in 18 months and no sign of talks over a new deal at the Allianz Arena.
In an interview with Sport Bild, Muller said: “No one has ever approached me from the club [about a new contract]. So, you have to see what the future will bring.”
On where he sees his future, the Bayern Munich forward added: “What appeals to me the most is sporting success and football at the highest level. That’s possible at Bayern. Or somewhere else.”
Sport Bild claim that Newcastle are ‘already trying to get’ Muller with the Magpies needing to secure survival to have any chance of signing the 32-year-old.
It is likely that Muller will ‘stay here [Bayern] anyway’ but Newcastle will try and tempt him to St James’ Park as they seek out a huge marquee summer signing.
Speaking about the future of a number of players, Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn said: “Whether that’s Manuel Neuer, whether that’s Robert Lewandowski, whether that’s Thomas Müller. Of course, it goes without saying that we exchange ideas with all these players in order to understand what they are thinking, what they want.”
Newcastle signed Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Matt Targett and Dan Burn in the January transfer window as they look to avoid relegation.
And former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell was particuarly impressed with the £13m deal to bring Burn to Tyneside from Brighton.
Campbell told Football Insider: “It is a steal at that price.
“Dan Burn is a very good player and he’s been excellent this season. He’s proven himself at Brighton.
“To get a player of his quality for that price is a steal. He bring with him a decent amount of Premier League experience.
“They have significantly improved their defence in the window. To be honest, they improved all over. I’m intrigued so see how these new players do.”
