Newcastle targets James Maddison, Kyle Walker-Peters and Joachim Andersen

Newcastle United want to follow up the signing of Sandro Tonali with deals for James Maddison, Kyle Walker-Peters and Joachim Andersen, according to reports.

The Magpies are on the verge of completing a deal to sign AC Milan midfielder Tonali in a deal worth a reported £68.5m transfer, including add-ons.

His agent confirmed over the weekend that the Italy international will undergo his medical at Newcastle over the “next few days” and described the deal as “excellent”.

Tonali’s agent, Guiseppe Riso, said: “Mission accomplished? “Not yet, there are still a few days left, a little more.

“It’s difficult to reject huge bid for the club and the player. We agreed all terms for Tonali with Newcastle and the two clubs are finalising the deal. The contract with Newcastle will be valid for the next six years.

“The boy is calm, he knows that when such important offers arrive, from such important properties, it is difficult to refuse both for the club and for the boy. We have reached an agreement on the player side, they are defining between clubs: once this is done, he will undergo medical examinations in the next few days.

“This is an excellent deal, Newcastle is the perfect project for Tonali. Newcastle wanted Sandro as a key signing at all costs. He will be a crucial player. This deal also helps AC Milan and Brescia’s finances a lot.”

And now Newcastle turn their attention elsewhere with Leicester City’s Maddison their next key target with the Foxes – who were relegated to the Championship at the end of the season – demanding ‘at least £50m’ for his services.

The Daily Mail claim that the Magpies will also attempt to get deals for a centre-back and a full-back over the line too, with Southampton’s Walker-Peters and Crystal Palace’s Andersen – who are valued at €30m (£26m) and €25m (£21m) respectively on Transfermarkt – emerging as top targets.

A report in the Daily Mail gives detail:

‘Newcastle United are maintaining an interest in Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters.

‘Much will depend on what they have left of their budget. Following Sandro Tonali’s move from AC Milan, Newcastle still intend to see if they can prise James Maddison away from Leicester City and out of Tottenham’s clutches. They also want a centre-back, such as Joachim Andersen from Crystal Palace.

‘Tonali’s deal is expected to cost around £52m plus bonuses and a sell-on percentage. Milan had been looking for much more after previously discussing a potential deal with Chelsea for the Italy U21 international which would have involved players in return.

‘Newcastle want options at full-back and, while they are keen on Kieran Tierney of Arsenal, Walker-Peters’ ability to play well on both flanks may tick more boxes. The 26-year-old won’t come cheap but prices may drop as the window progresses.

‘For their part, Southampton will hold a recruitment meeting on Monday afternoon.

‘Manager Russell Martin is keen to bring in Swansea City’s £12million-rated striker Joel Piroe. However, acrimony between the clubs over Martin’s compensation following his switch from Swansea could well hinder negotiations. Piroe also has an offer from abroad.

‘Fulham and West Ham are among several clubs waiting on Southampton to fix a price on midfielder James Ward-Prowse. Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all have varying levels of interest in £50m-rated Romeo Lavia.
