Newcastle ‘prepare offer’ for £69m Man Utd target as Red Devils continue to ‘follow him closely’

Newcastle are reportedly ready to make an offer for Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, who’s been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.

Ramos is thought to be among Erik ten Hag’s targets along with Harry Kane, Randal Kolo Muani, Victor Osimhen and Rasmus Hojlund, though the Red Devils are limited by a £120m summer transfer budget.

£55m of that has already been spent on Mason Mount and some will be required for a goalkeeper, which may or may not be Andre Onana, who will cost a significant amount.

But a striker remains a priority for Ten Hag and A Bola claimed on Monday that United will ‘evaluate the possibility of advancing with a concrete offer’ for Ramos, though an unnamed club have already put in a €60m offer.

That may be Paris Saint-Germain, who are known to be interested and are looking to replace both Lionel Messi and Neymar, though a Correio da Manha report via Sport Witness suggests Newcastle are also in the running.

They claim the Magpies are about to ‘attack’ for Ramos and are ‘preparing to present an offer’ for the striker as they look to ‘heavily invest’ this summer.

Ramos is under contract until 2025 and has a €120m release clause, though it’s claimed Benfica will accept offers of around €80m for the 22-year-old.

The report confirms that Manchester United continue to ‘follow him closely’ but they could soon be out of the running for Ramos as they press ahead with talks over a move for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.

The 20-year-old has caught the eye this season with his impressive performances for club and country with nine goals and two assists in 32 appearances for Atalanta, although only 20 of those were from the start.

The Sun have revealed that Man Utd are ‘preparing a second bid of £40m’ in an effort to sign Hojlund from Atalanta this summer after their ‘bargain-bucket bid’ of £30m was rejected by the Serie A side last week.
