Newcastle United have been tipped to blow ‘£150m-£200m’ on Tottenham striker Harry Kane by former player Darren Ambrose.

The England international spent most of the summer trying to engineer a move away from his boyhood club before giving in after Spurs chairman stood firm over his valuation.

Some reports at the time claimed that Levy had no intention of selling Kane and that any interested club would have to bid £160m to even get him around the negotiating table.

Southgate out, pointless Mount, ‘egotistical maniac’ Kane

It is clear to see why Manchester City wanted to sign him in the summer with Kane bagging 227 goals in 346 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham.

However, his form has taken a dip this season with the 28-year-old failing to score in a Premier League match this term, only finding his scoring boots in the League Cup and Europa Conference League.

Newcastle were taken over by a Saudi-led consortium last week, making them one of the wealthiest clubs in world football overnight,

When discussing the Magpies’ transfer plans, Ambrose told talkSPORT (via The Sun): “What about Harry Kane? Now I say this because, are Manchester City or Chelsea going to be paying £100m-£120m in the summer.

“I don’t think they are. I think [City] went to around £130m this summer, so Newcastle will. They will go £150m-£200m. Say Daniel Levy puts on another ridiculously high transfer fee that nobody else is going to pay and Newcastle say, ‘OK, there’s £150m’.

“Who’s got more chance of winning a trophy at the moment? Tottenham or Newcastle right now? Everyone is going to say [Newcastle] now because they’re a project and they’ve got ambition.”

Despite Ambrose’s thoughts on Newcastle buying Kane, it is understood that the Magpies’ budget will be nowhere near that amount.

Ambrose added: “Say Daniel Levy puts on another ridiculously high transfer fee that nobody else is going to pay and Newcastle say, ‘OK, there’s £150m’.

“Who’s got more chance of winning a trophy at the moment? Tottenham or Newcastle right now? Everyone is going to say [Newcastle] now because they’re a project and they’ve got ambition.”
