Newcastle told they can ‘finish above Man Utd’ if they spend £400m

Newcastle United “can finish above Manchester United” next season if they spend £300-400m this summer, according to Jamie O’Hara.
Newcastle’s Saudi-led takeover was completed earlier this season. As expected, they were busy during the winter transfer window.
They spent around £90m as they brought in the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier.

The Magpies are in great form of late as they have won five of their last six Premier League games. They are now 14th in the table and seven points clear of the bottom three.
Man Utd meanwhile have won just two of their last six league games. On Sunday, they were beaten 4-1 by their rivals Man City.
United were still in the game at half-time as the score was 2-1. But City toyed with their opponents in the second half as they ran out comfortable winners.
The Red Devils are now fifth and before next season, they will appoint a new permanent manager. Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino appear to be the favoured candidates for the role.
O’Hara has now boldly suggested that if Newcastle spend £400m on new players, they can finish ahead of Man Utd in 2022/23:
“You look at Newcastle now, the way they’re playing, the money they’re going to spend in the summer. You’ve got a manager in Eddie Howe who has got his magic factor back again.
“I look at Newcastle and think if they continue the way they’re going and they invest £300 or £400 million in players in the summer, they can finish above Manchester United!”

“The mentality at Manchester United is nowhere near what it used to be. It’s like they accept getting beat. That was never an option 10 years ago when you played Manchester United.
“It was unacceptable to get rolled over. I remember a few games when [Wayne] Rooney would play and they’d get beat, he’d go and nail someone or grab them by the scruff of the neck. I don’t see that in this United team.
“It’s like they accept ‘we’re not good enough, we’re not as good as Manchester City.’ That mentality needs to change if they want to be successful again.”
Meanwhile, Roy Keane has questioned Ralf Rangnick’s claim that Cristiano Ronaldo missed Manchester United’s defeat to Manchester City through injury.
“There seems to be [something more to it],” Keane said on Sky Sports.
“I just don’t like it when the manager talks about this hip flexor, I don’t get it.
“We talk about Ronaldo being some sort of machine, he’s very rarely injured and then every now and again he comes out with something and says ‘hip flexor’.
“It doesn’t add up to me.”
