LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena says that he would like Steven Gerrard to stay at the club.
Gerrard had been expected to leave the Galaxy after their elimination from the play-offs, with Celtic mentioned as one possible destination.
Liverpool were also predictably mentioned, with Jurgen Klopp saying that he would welcome Gerrard back.
Gerrard revealed in September that there had been no discussions between him and Liverpool over a return.
“Jurgen Klopp’s his own man, he’s got his own team of people around him that he’s very happy and content with,” Gerrard said.
“Of course I’ve got a huge Liverpool connection and Liverpool is in my heart and always will be but there’s nothing to really comment on.
“There’s no future decision to work with Klopp, I get on very well with him, we’re in contact but there’s no job opportunity there at the moment.”
However, Arena says that the club are still hopeful that Gerrard could stay for a second season.
“We were honoured to have Stevie here as well as Robbie and are hopeful they continue to be part of our club,” Arena said.
“If Sunday was his last game, to finish the way he finished with that penalty and the 45 minutes he played after being out for close to two months, was pretty impressive.”
He’s just going to end up retiring, isn’t he?
