Northampton boss Gary Johnson still has several injury concerns.
The Londoner did not name those players nursing knocks but one such may be Ashley Westwood, who missed the Carling Cup game against Wolves six days ago and the league match with Morecambe at the weekend.
Kevin Thornton is nearing full fitness and the midfielder was on the bench on Saturday. He may start the first-round tie as Johnson looks to give him match time.
The likes of Michael Jacobs, Nick McKoy and Lumbardh Salihu are also options for Johnson, whose side were booed off on Saturday following a fourth straight defeat in all competitions.
Huddersfield captain Peter Clarke will miss out.
Clarke did not feature in the 3-0 victory over Wycombe due to a back injury and manager Lee Clark explained that, although the injury would not keep him out for the long run, he won’t face the Cobblers.
“Peter Clarke’s injury to his back is not long term. He will not be with us for the trip down to Northampton as has gone to London to see a specialist,” he told the club’s official website.
“However, I am confident he will be up and running and in contention for selection at Oldham.”
Alex Smithies continues to be sidelined with a knee problem but Damien Johnson is nearing full fitness.
The Northern Ireland international will be involved in a friendly on Wednesday and could return against Oldham.
