Norwich City have held talks with Manchester United over the signing of Brandon Williams on loan, according to reports.

The 20-year-old made his first-team breakthrough for United during the 2019/20 campaign. He made a good impression that term as he racked up 36 appearances across all competitions.

As a result of the form of Luke Shaw and the signing of Alex Telles, Williams fell down the pecking order last season. He played 17 times, but only four of these outings came in the Premier League.

Southampton were also keen on signing Williams on loan but were put off by the £2million loan fee that United were demanding.

The Saints instead signed 18-year-old defender Tino Livramento from Chelsea.

Newly-promoted Norwich are looking to bolster their defensive options with Williams also keen on a move to the Canaries, according to The Athletic.

Whether the Red Devils will hold out for a £2m loan fee remains to be seen and it is unknown whether or not Norwich will be happy to pay that.

The left-back’s future is uncertain, however, due to Telles’ injury sustained in pre-season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might want to keep Williams in his squad if the Brazilian is out for a number of weeks.

The Canaries brought in Billy Gilmour on loan from Chelsea earlier this summer.

The 20-year-old made 11 appearances for the Blues last season, starting three Premier League matches.

Gilmour is relishing the prospect of his spell at Carrow Road, and said: “I’m very excited to be here. I can’t wait for the season ahead. I’ve been looking forward to coming here, playing as much as possible and helping Norwich City compete in the Premier League.

“I spoke to the head coach. He called me and we had a nice talk about how he wants to play and how he sees me fitting in. Everything he said was what I want to do on the pitch, get the ball down and play nice football. He spoke really highly of his team and I wanted to come join here and help.”

Canaries boss Daniel Farke feels Gilmour is a “perfect fit” for his Canaries team.

“We are really happy to have brought Billy in,” he said.

“We got the feeling that he can help us a lot with his ability to link the play, his technical qualities and also his work against the ball. From the football point of view, but also from his character he is the perfect fit for us.”
