Jurgen Klopp decided not to sign Christian Pulisic after Xherdan Shaqiri’s success at Liverpool this season, according to reports.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for Pulisic over the past 12 months or so but the USA international completed his £57.5million move to Chelsea on Wednesday morning.
Pulisic will join up with Maurizio Sarri’s squad in the summer after being loaned back to Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign.
And the Liverpool Echo report that Liverpool ‘haven’t seriously considered a move’ for Pulisic following the signing of Shaqiri from Stoke in the summer for £12.5million.
The report continues by saying that the Swiss international was signed by Klopp as a ‘Pulisic alternative’.
Added to that Bleacher Report claims Pulisic didn’t choose to snub Liverpool in favour of a switch to Stamford Bridge, but rather the Premier League leaders decided against a move.
The outlet claims that Klopp had two main concerns: namely the player’s inflated price tag and questions over whether he would get into the current side.
The German has no shortage of attacking options at his disposal, with Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino all being deployed this season.
The report states that Klopp ‘feels his side have moved on to a point where it would be difficult to for the winger to get into the setup’.
