Arsenal to sign Trossard

David Ornstein has confirmed that Leandro Trossard to Arsenal is now a “done deal” as the transfer has been “agreed” with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Well, this transfer has progressed pretty quickly. On Thursday morning, it was revealed that the Gunners had submitted an ‘official bid’ to sign Trossard from Premier League rivals Brighton.

Tottenham Hotspur were initially keen to sign the midfielder, who has made it pretty clear that he wants to leave Brighton after falling out of favour under Roberto De Zerbi.

The Belgium international enjoyed a stunning start to this season under Graham Potter but he has found himself out of the team in recent weeks due to his apparent “attitude” issues.

De Zerbi said a few days ago that he does not feel that he’s “made a mistake” with his treatment of Trossard.

“I want to be clear about Trossard. I’m sorry for the situation,” De Zerbi said after Brighton beat Liverpool 3-0 last weekend.

“I don’t think I’ve made a mistake with him. The people inside Brighton know very well the situation.

“I’m fine with myself and I’m ready to open the doors for him, because he’s a good guy and a very important player for us.

“He changes the team, but he has to understand and to work with my attitude, in my way, because I am the coach, I decide the rules inside the dressing room, only this.”

His contract is due to expire in the summer but the Seagulls are in a decent position as they have the option to extend his deal by a further year until 2024.

This means that they still have been able to demand a sizable fee for their wantaway star and that is what they have done. According to reports, Spurs were first to bid for him but they went for a cheeky £12m offer.

This was swiftly rejected by Brighton and Arsenal have swooped in to sign him ahead of their rivals. Ornstein revealed on Thursday afternoon that Arsenal have ‘reached an agreement’ to sign Trossard.

The transfer is “now being described as a done deal’ with the fee for Trossard ‘understood to be £27m’.

Fabrizio Romano was first to the news about Trossard-Arsenal on Thursday morning. He adds that the player ‘will sign his contract soon’ and his ‘medical tests will take place in London’.

Romano also states that Arsenal have beaten ‘many contenders’ to sign Trossard and they ‘moved very quickly’ over the night to get the deal done.

Trossard comes in as an alternative to Mykhaylo Mudryk, who has joined Chelsea ahead of Arsenal for a fee that could rise to £88m with add-ons.
