Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has rejected a move to Chelsea in favour of holding out hope for a potential transfer to Liverpool, according to reports.

The midfielder has less than 12 months to run on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium and he recently rejected an offer of a new deal to remain at the club.

Antonio Conte reportedly saw his bid of £40million accepted for the versatile England international  but the deal has fallen through after Oxlade-Chamberlain decided against a move to Stamford Bridge.

The BBC claims that Oxlade-Chamberlain was keen to avoid playing right wing-back  – a position Conte wants to use him in – as he sees himself as a midfielder.

Liverpool are also understood to have submitted a bid but less than Chelsea’s for the former Southampton star and Jurgen Klopp is thought to be keen to use Oxlade-Chamberlain in his preferred central midfield role.

That means the Merseyside club would provide him with a more attractive option and the Metro claims that Oxlade-Chamberlain is happy to wait to leave next summer on a free if Liverpool can’t agree a deal with Chelsea.
