Thomas Partey has been happy by everything he has seen from Arsenal during his time at the club so far.
Partey was a long-rumoured target for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta. The Ghanian midfielder had been linked with a move to the Gunners throughout the summer.
It looked like they were going to miss out on their primary target until they activated his release clause on deadline day.
They signed him just before the deadline passed in a deal worth around £44.5m. Partey has already settled in well at Arsenal, impressing many onlookers with his composure in midfield.
He played the full 90 minutes in their Europa League opener against Rapid Vienna. Then at the weekend, he started for the Gunners for the first time in the Premier League against Leicester City.
Arsenal would lose 1-0 to Leicester, but Partey feels that they were “unlucky” to lose. He also told their club website that he was “nervous” before the game:
“I could not believe it [when I found out I was starting]. I was a bit nervous but I always get these nerves when I play most of my game, so I was like, ‘OK, let me keep it cool and I’ll be fine’.
“Then when we started the game I thought we had control of the ball and so many chances, and we were unlucky.”
“It’s part of football and we have to keep working. We have to keep working hard because we have a great team of great players. I think we’re going to be successful.
Partey also said that he has been impressed by Arteta so far, and he is confident his new team can beat Manchester United on Sunday:
“I think I’m in the team that I’m looking forward to playing for. They have everything, a good manager, good players, the right mentality and the way they play is very good. It’s the best place for me.
“Manchester United are a great team with great players and important players,” he added. “If we do our work well, if we go in and fight for points, if we put a lot of pressure on them, we’ll be able to win.”
