Barcelona have identified Paul Pogba and Erling Haaland as transfer targets for next summer and are already working on a move for Dani Olmo, according to reports.

The Catalan giants are set to flex their muscles in the transfer market next summer after a nightmare window just gone, which saw them lose their talisman Lionel Messi and pick up Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero on free transfers.

Their huge debts – totalling £1.15bn – restricted their spending, with Eric Garcia and Luuk de Jong representing the only other significant additions, signed on a free and on loan respectively.

Man Utd should give Dalot chance to justify Jose hype

Barca were well beaten in their opening Champions League fixture against Bayern Munich, which illustrated the desperate need for investment in the squad, but they are hamstrung by their financial crisis, which saw them make a €481m loss last season.

However, despite these issues, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim the club are eyeing three big names next summer, with Pogba, Haaland and Olmo all targets.

The pursuit of Haaland is seen as the most fanciful, with several other clubs plotting a move for the Norwegian.

He is also the most expensive of the three, given the transfer fee itself – a £68m release clause will become active – and the commissions for representatives Mino Raiola and Alf-Inge Haaland.

Olmo, on the other hand, is a much more realistic target, with a deal already in the works for the RB Leipzig forward.

He was close to joining the club last summer and Barca remain keen on the ex-La Masia forward. He registered five goals and ten assists in the Bundesliga last season.

Pogba, meanwhile, is described as “the opportunity”, with the Frenchman’s contract due to expire at the end of the season.

Manchester United have made several offers in a bid to keep him but he seems set on a departure, meaning suitors are free to establish a pre-contract agreement in January.

Juventus are thought to be interested, as are PSG and Real Madrid. If Barca are to join the race, they will have to brace themselves for the demands of Raiola, who is known to drive a hard bargain.

With no fee to be paid, though, a move for Pogba is seen as a possibility financially.
