Pep Guardiola remained tight-lipped over questions regarding Manchester City’s pursuit of Aymeric Laporte.
City are said to be willing to trigger the France defender’s £56.76million release clause before the transfer deadline next Wednesday, while Guardiola continues to be linked with a swoop for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred.
Reports in Spain suggested Laporte had been penciled in to undergo a medical next Monday but at his press conference on Friday, Guardiola was in no mood to give anything away over City’s recruitment plans over the coming days.
“We always try to do the best for the club, knowing the players we have and knowing the players that can improve the club,” he said.
“I know you are curious because the media talks about it but here is not a place to talk about that. The players are playing right now at other clubs.”
When asked specifically about Laporte, Guardiola said: “He is a player for Athletic Bilbao. If it happens it happens.”
