The Premier League champions were heavily linked with Harry Maguire before his £80million move to Manchester United, and it appears they were also keen on signing centre-back Skriniar, according to Calciomercato via Sport Witness.
It is claimed that City made an approach for Skriniar in the summer but Inter boss Antonio Conte blocked his exit.
The Slovakian started all but three of Inter’s Serie A games last season and both of the opening games of this campaign.
Guardiola lost club legend Vincent Kompany at the end of the last season and Aymeric Laporte is expected to be out for some time due to an injury he picked up against Brighton.
With Guardiola and City chasing the quadruple, the English champions could return for Škriniar in January.
