Andreas Pereira says his “first intention” is to establish himself at Manchester United.

Pereira is on United’s pre-season tour of the United States, having returned from a loan spell with Valencia.

Jose Mourinho openly criticised the midfielder for leaving the club last season, but he has been welcomed back into the fold.

And Pereira is now eager to stake his claim for a first-team place at Old Trafford.

“It’s my intention to stay here and help the club and help the team,” Pereira said. “Of course, that’s my first intention, so I want to do everything what I can to stay at the club and help United this season.

“I think it was on my personal level I needed to play another season regularly and it was good for me as well, and I think it’s good for the team and the club that I’m more prepared now than last year.

“I spoke with him (Mourinho) about that and now this season I want to stay and do my best for the club. I feel a better player now than last year.”

Mourinho has already told him what he wants.
