Jurgen Klopp “isn’t doing his job properly” at Liverpool this season, according to former Arsenal winger Perry Groves.

The Reds’ rapidly unravelling season took a further turn for the worse on Thursday evening when they slipped to a fifth successive home defeat for the first time in the club’s history.

The reigning Premier League champions will head into the weekend sitting in seventh place in the table, 22 points adrift of leaders Manchester City and with memories of last season triumphant charge to their first title for 30 years fading fast.

And Groves thinks Klopp is going through a “dip in form” as a manager with the German boss lacking a “clear, clinical thought process”.

“I actually think Liverpool have had a result tonight that they’ve only been beaten 1-0,” Groves told talkSPORT.

“Werner’s offside goal was ridiculous. He should have scored two or three others.

“The only time Liverpool ever looked like they were going to score was when Chelsea continuously played out from the back.

“The Liverpool players aren’t doing their jobs properly. Jurgen Klopp, who is the leader of Liverpool football club, he isn’t doing his job properly at this particular time.

“Players go through dips in form – I think Klopp is going through the biggest dip in form of his managerial career.

“The stuff he’s doing at the moment, there doesn’t seem to be a clear, clinical thought process.”

Groves added: “The team hasn’t got any leaders on the pitch at the moment. The team isn’t getting any leadership so this is where the manager has to give leadership.

“At the moment he’s not doing it. Now the manager has to find a way (to get over the injuries) and at the moment he isn’t doing it.

“He looks like he’s lost his way. It’s easy when you’re fist pumping, running down the touchline when things are going your way. You still have to give that leadership when things aren’t going well.

“Even bad Liverpool teams never went and lost five on the trot at home.

“I’ve been sticking up for Jurgen Klopp quite a bit because of all the outside stuff beyond his control. There’s stuff within his control he’s not doing properly.”
