Petit claims Arsenal ‘need’ Chelsea man to cover for Jesus as former Man City star is linked
Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit claims Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic would fit in “perfectly” at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners, who are currently five points ahead of defending champions Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, suffered a blow when star striker Gabriel Jesus was injured at the World Cup.
Although there has been no timescale released by the club, Jesus is expected to be out for months and not weeks, leading to Arsenal considering a January transfer move for another striker.
Joao Felix is among the names who have been linked with a transfer but Petit reckons Arsenal should go ahead and bring the USA international Pulisic across London.
Pulisic has struggled to make a big impact at Chelsea since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 and there have been rumours that the Blues are open to offers for the 24-year-old.
Petit told Football Betting: “You could see with Pulisic like he was playing with revenge at the World Cup. He was so good for the USA and he deserves to play regularly at another club. I think he’s the exact kind of player that Arsenal need.
“Now that Gabriel Jesus is out I think he’d be a great option. Just like Hakim Ziyech, you can see his head is not with Chelsea right now and seeing them both miserable – they don’t deserve it.”
And Petit thinks Arsenal need to strengthen further in January if they want to challenge for the title, he added: “They need reinforcements in the transfer market. There was talk about Goncalo Ramos and although he scored a hat-trick against Switzerland, I think it’s too early. He didn’t have any impact against Morocco.
“No headers, no runs, no hold up. [Wilfried] Zaha from Palace, [Allan] Saint-Maximin from Newcastle or Pulisic from Chelsea would be my three they should target. Pulisic will fit perfectly with what Arteta wants, he loves playing one-touch football with good movement and he lives in London so it will be an easy switch.”
Another name linked with Arsenal is former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres with Spanish website Fichajes claiming that the Gunners are interested.
Arteta has apparently ‘told the board’ at Arsenal that they must bring in more wingers as he looks to ‘rotate’ Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli in the busy second half of the campaign.
Spain international Torres ‘perfectly fits the profile they are looking for’ with Arteta knowing him well from their time together at Man City.
