Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is being considered for the caretaker manager’s job at Manchester United, according to reports.

The club are looking for someone to take the role until the end of the campaign after they sacked Jose Mourinho on Tuesday morning.

A fans’ favourite at Old Trafford, Solksjaer was manager of the club’s reserve team between 2008 and taking the reins at the Norwegian club in 2011.

Solskjaer had a short spell at Cardiff – United’s opponents this weekend – and returned to Molde in 2015.

The former striker signed a new three-year deal with the Norwegian club two weeks ago.

The Daily Mail claims that United want to bring Solskjaer to Old Trafford until the end of the season, when they will consider either Zinedine Zidane or Mauricio Pochettino for the permanent role.

Meanwhile, Sam Wallace in the Daily Telegraph says that Mike Phelan, who was former assistant manager under Sir Alex Ferguson, is expected to make a return to Old Trafford to work alongside Solskjaer.
