Leeds United and England star Kalvin Phillips would “fit Liverpool perfectly”, but he would cost around £100m, according to Perry Groves.

The midfielder has come on leaps and bounds as a footballer since Marcelo Bielsa took over at Leeds United.

Phillips has a key figure in 2019/20 as Leeds ended a Covid-19 disrupted season as Championship champions to secure their Premier League return.

Liverpool to lose Henderson and Klopp over deal?

The 25-year-old shone for the Whites last season as they sealed a ninth-place finish in the top flight. After this, Phillips starred for England at Euro 2020 as Gareth Southgate‘s side reached the final of the tournament.

Liverpool are said to have shown interest in the midfielder in recent months.

This comes after reports emerged suggesting that Jordan Henderson’s future is in doubt.

Groves – who won the First Division title with Arsenal twice between 1988 and 1991 – has spoken about Phillips with talkSPORT. He believes that the midfielder is worth £100m:

“Kalvin Phillips fits Liverpool perfectly.

“The energy they play with, the closing down, his athleticism, his passing range.

“What would he cost? £100million.”

Elsewhere, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised six of the club’s youngsters:

“They are really, really exciting, I have to say. All of them – there’s not one in where I say, ‘Oh’.

“They are all really good. I have to say, the Academy is doing a brilliant job, we cannot say it a different way – we have a bunch of players we are really excited about. It’s a win-win situation.

“I told them in the first days, just don’t hold anything back because that’s really a waste of time.

“You have a chance to impress, so do it. You are here because you are good, we all know that: Now you are here, just hold nothing back.

“Then you see how Tyler (Morton), Conor (Bradley), they all throw their heart on the pitch and it’s really, really nice to see. We have the very young players; Kaide Gordon, for example, now the youngest.

“Then there’s 18-year-olds, the 19-year-olds still very young. Then Leighton Clarkson is already 20, so he is not that young anymore, like Jake Cain as well. And Rhys (Williams) is making steps – literally, how we all see – but development-wise as well.”
