Mauricio Pochettino has suggested Spurs have allowed the Champions League to become a distraction this season.
The north Londoners have struggled for consistency at times this season and, speaking after the 5-1 victory over Stoke, Pochettino said: “Last season we were frustrated because we were very good in the Premier League but we were a disaster in the Champions League.
“This season the team was so determined to show that they can compete in the Champions League and when you mix with the Premier League that maybe was a bit of a distraction.
“Maybe that was the reason. But now we can only be focused on the Premier League and winning games. It’s important to be ready for the next game on Wednesday.”
On the victory over the Potters, he added: “The performance was very good, a very great performance from the team, and it is not easy to score five.
“But I am not surprised by the performance, it was like against Watford and West Bromwich. Always you need a bit of luck to open games. Today we can open the game and in the second half the team was determined to score the second and third goals.
“That is how we need to play from now. Consistency between now and the end of the season is so important if we want to finish in the top four. The team showed their true quality.
