Pochettino wants to make Kane his marquee signing at Chelsea as Tottenham ‘brace for huge bid’
Chelsea are interested in signing Harry Kane this summer with Mauricio Pochettino’s imminent arrival pushing him to the top of their list, according to reports.
The England captain will enter the final year of his contract at the end of June and there’s been speculation that he could once again consider a move away from Tottenham.
Kane flirted with a move to Manchester City in 2021 before the Citizens invested their money in Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland instead.
This summer appears to be make or break for Kane’s future at Tottenham with the England international either deciding to renew his contract at the club or leave.
During his time at Tottenham, Kane has become Spurs and England’s all-time highest goalscorer with the 29-year-old scoring 274 goals in 430 matches in all competitions for his boyhood club.
Tottenham are yet to win a trophy in his time as a first-team player with their last silverware coming in 2008 when Juande Ramos’ side won the League Cup.
Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly ‘sold’ on Kane being their top transfer target this summer with the Red Devils recently discovering they could get ‘a £15m discount’ on the transfer.
The Red Devils are ‘hopeful’ of signing Kane for £85m plus add-ons but talkSPORT have revealed today that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy ‘is bracing himself for an offer from Chelsea’ for Kane.
Kane ‘was already in Chelsea’s thoughts as they search for a experienced no.9 for next season’ but ‘Pochettino’s pending appointment at Stamford Bridge is set to only heighten the Blues’ interest’.
Chelsea would stand a good chance as Kane and Pochettino ‘share a special bond’ from their time together at Tottenham in which they reached the Champions League final.
But talkSPORT also pour cold water on the possibility he will move to Chelsea as ‘Levy is reluctant to sell Kane to any Premier League club, let alone a London rival’.
Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas claims a transfer to Man Utd or Newcastle – who have also been linked – would “not be enough” for Kane.
Jenas told the Daily Mirror: “The other is Newcastle. They’ve got the financial structure for the foreseeable future, a team that has got stability, will play in the Champions League and grow.
“We don’t know how much they’re gonna kick on next year but I’m sure they’re going to. But if I’m totally honest, I don’t feel like those two options [Newcastle and Man United] are enough for Harry.
“I think that with his love for the club and the ability for Tottenham to pay him what he wants anyway – because they do have the ability to pay their best players as they’ve shown in the past – if those are only his only two options, I only see him staying at Spurs.
“Bayern Munich, I don’t see him because there because he wants to beat [Alan] Shearer’s [Premier League goalscoring] record.
“But if Real Madrid came up, he should get himself on a plane as soon as possible because those opportunities just don’t come up often. You’re talking about the most glamorous football club on the planet where he can go and win stuff, and create another legacy at a different place and have a new experience with his family as well.”
