James Brown and Colin Larkin returned from injuries in the reserves’ 6-1 win against Scunthorpe on Wednesday, although the best Brown can hope for is a cameo appearance from the bench after a lengthy absence.
Brown was involved for the first time since November when the luckless striker suffered a lateral cartilage tear to his knee.
He scored twice within two and a half minutes of coming on but Turner stressed he is still some way from full first-team contention.
Fellow forward Larkin is pushing for a start after overcoming a hamstring problem.
The corresponding fixture last season produced eight goals, with Hartlepool coming from behind three times before running out 5-3 winners.
