Postecoglou target ‘not convinced’ by Tottenham ‘attack;’ Fulham star now expected to make Ligue 1 switch
Fulham centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo is reportedly expected to sign for French club Monaco this summer despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs have been linked with several defenders this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to improve that area of his squad ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Tottenham conceded an eye-watering 63 goals in the Premier League last term – the sixth-worst record in the Premier League. This was ultimately the key reason why they missed out on qualifying for European football.
Postecoglou is happy to sell Ben Davies, Japhet Tanganga, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier this summer, so he will need to bring in replacements for them.
Adarabioyo is one defensive target that has been linked with Tottenham. As reported by TEAMtalk, the London club were thought to be preparing a bid for the 25-year-old this week.
Last season, the centre-back made 25 Premier League appearances for Fulham. In the process, he helped his team to three clean sheets and scored one goal.
His performances caught the attention of Tottenham and several other European clubs. But it now seems Postecoglou will have to switch his attention to other targets.
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Monaco have ‘almost reached an agreement’ on personal terms with Adarabioyo. He is out of contract in 2024 an Fulham are open to selling him for the right price.
They claim that Tottenham ‘made an attack’ with their own offer for the defender. This has ‘not convinced’ Adarabioyo, however, whereas he is ‘thrilled’ by the idea of joining Monaco.
As a result, Spurs will have to pursue alternative defensive targets.
Two players who have been linked with a move to the London club for some time are Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.
Tottenham are reportedly still working on deals for the Bundesliga duo and remain confident they can bring in at least one of them ahead of the coming season.
Galatasaray centre-back Victor Nelsson is another player that has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs. So there is no doubt that there is plenty of work going on behind the scenes to secure defensive additions.
Time is of the essence, though, with the season fast approaching. So, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham make a new bid for one of the aforementioned targets in the next few days.
