Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross has signed a two year contract extension to extend his stay on the south-coast until 2024.

The 30-year-old German midfielder joined from Ingolstadt in 2017 and has made 170 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring 17 goals.

One player per Premier League club the ‘big six’ should attempt to sign this summer

Brighton boss Graham Potter told the club website: “I am delighted for Pascal and the club that he’s now signed.

“He has been a key player throughout the club’s time in the Premier League and for me during my time as head coach.

“He is an excellent professional on and off the pitch.

“As one of our senior players in the dressing room, he’s a great example to any young player, and he showed again this season that he is an important member of the squad and key player for us on the pitch.”

Potter had revealed last month that Gross and forward Danny Welbeck were close to signing new contracts with the club.

“Pascal and Danny are really close, I think, to agreeing everything for next year,” he said.

“I think it’s just a matter of time, a bit of formality, so that’s great.”

Elsewhere, Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong has insisted he would prefer to stay with Barcelona as they are his ‘dream club’.

“I have enough confidence in myself [to be a success at Barcelona],” he told Algemeen Dagblad (via Manchester Evening News). “I am not afraid. I recently spoke extensively with the trainer [Xavi]. That was a very good conversation.

“I will not go into that [the links to United]. Not even about other names or clubs. I used to be naive and open-minded about it. I don’t do that anymore.

“I understand that that link is made. That sum is not that difficult, it is logical. I have enjoyed working with Ten Hag at Ajax – and I can’t look into the future, of course. But I prefer to stay at Barcelona.

“That has always been my dream club and it still is. As long as I don’t hear from the club management, I assume nothing is going on.”
