Paris Saint-Germain are hoping to take advantage of Barcelona’s hesitancy in their pursuit of Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, it is claimed in France.
Aubameyang has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium, with his contract set to run out next summer.
Barcelona have been the most heavily linked potential buyer, with reports even going as far as saying he had given his approval to the move.
Manager Mikel Arteta was asked about the rumours recently, admitting that he thought the Gabon international was happy to stay with the Gunners.
Consequently, the links appear to have cooled, with Sport suggesting that Barcelona have moved on from Aubameyang and will focus on Valencia striker Rodrigo instead.
It is claimed that Aubameyang would not fit in with Barca’s tactics under new coach Quique Setien as comfortably as Rodrigo – while the La Liga giants are also considering Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud.
However, Foot Mercato reveal that another suitor has emerged in the race for Aubameyang, as PSG have identified him as their perfect Edinson Cavani replacement.
Cavani is set to leave PSG this month, having reportedly turned down Manchester United in favour of Atletico Madrid.
The French outlet reveal that PSG have began making contact with Aubameyang’s representatives, with their coach Thomas Tuchel having worked with the 30-year-old at former club Borussia Dortmund.
Tuchel is said to be keen for a reunion with Aubameyang, who could be offered the chance to leave Arsenal on loan with an option for a permanent transfer.
Islam Slimani – now on Man Utd’s striker shortlist – and Luka Jovic had also been suggested to Tuchel, but it is Aubameyang who he would prefer to sign.
