Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has been reintegrated into first-team training after the French club’s opening day goalless draw at home to Lorient.

Mbappe has reportedly told the Parisien club’s bosses that he will not trigger the one-year option to extend his contract beyond 2024, meaning he will be able to leave for nothing in less than 12 months.

This enraged the club, who omitted the France captain from their pre-season tour of Asia and put him up for sale.

Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal are believed to be the only side to make an offer for Mbappe, going as high as £259million to bring the French superstar to the middle east, all for one season before an inevitable move to Real Madrid.

PSG reportedly believe Mbappe has an agreement to join Madrid as a free agent next summer with the relationship between player and club in the mud.

The 24-year-old was one of many players – known as ‘the undesirables’ and also including ex-Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum – left in Paris to train while the club worked on their exits.

After a turbulent pre-season, Luis Enrique took charge of his first competitive match on Saturday evening when PSG hosted Lorient in Ligue 1.

Unfortunately for the Spanish manager, the game finished goalless with Mbappe watching in the stands next to his newest PSG teammate, Ousmane Dembele.

In the wake of the drab draw, PSG released a statement saying Mbappe is back training with the first team.

The decision was made following a discussion prior to the Lorient game. This is probably true but it is amusing the assume they came crawling back to Mbappe because they couldn’t score against bloody Lorient (with all due respect).

The statement read (via Fabrizio Romano): “Following very constructive, positive talks between PSG and Kylian Mbappe before game vs Lorient, the player has been reinstated into first team training squad this morning.”

Meanwhile, reports suggest Mbappe will meet with the PSG hierarchy in the coming days to discuss a solution to what has been a messy saga.

Mbappe has always wanted to stay at PSG for 2023/24, even if the club are desperate to sell the former Monaco youngster.

The conclusion to this summer’s saga is going to be very interesting.
