Liverpool are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Renato Sanches in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
The Reds have underperformed this season with Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sixth in the Premier League table, seven points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham but with two games in hand.
Their poor form this season has been made more remarkable after going so close last campaign to an unprecedented Quadruple with Manchester City eventually beating them to the Premier League title and Real Madrid edging them out in the Champions League final.
And it remains to be seen how much backing Liverpool boss Klopp will get in the summer with owners Fenway Sports Group openly looking for investment in the club.
But there are already a number of rumours as to who Liverpool will invest their money in this summer with new midfielders understood to be their top priority.
And 90min claim that Liverpool are ‘believed to appreciate’ Swansea City flop Sanches ‘and are being kept informed of his situation’ at PSG.
The report names Aston Villa, Newcastle, Tottenham and Wolves as other potential suitors and they understand ‘that significant interest from England remains’.
PSG are ‘prepared to part ways’ with Sanches ‘just one year after signing him from Lille’ with the midfielder suffering a number of injuries and failing to ever play more than 25 games in a league season.
But Liverpool have reportedly moved to tie up an early summer signing with Football Insider claiming the Reds have ‘made a move’ for St Patrick’s Athletic forward Mason Melia.
The ‘teen sensation’ has become the youngest-ever player and goalscorer for the Irish side at the age of 15 and he has ‘caught the attention of Premier League clubs including Liverpool and they have registered an interest in signing him’.
Football Insider adds:
‘The Merseysiders’ scouts have been keeping close tabs on the youngster and have delivered rave reviews to the recruitment team.
‘But Liverpool face competition to land the forward this summer from their Premier League rivals.’
Liverpool have been heavily linked to Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham and former Reds striker Emile Heskey thinks he would be a good fit at Anfield.
Heskey told 90min: “Jude definitely fits that bill [for Liverpool]. Jude would fit the bill for a lot of clubs. You hope that Liverpool can be the ones at the top of that list because you look at what he could achieve there.
“When you think of what Cristiano Ronaldo did by going to Real Madrid in his prime, and people thought ‘why’s he going to Real Madrid?’ but he saw an opportunity to be the man to take the club back to the top – it could be the same situation for Jude.”
