Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has no interest in returning to Newcastle United in January, according to reports.

The Netherlands international moved to PSG in the summer on a free transfer after his contract ran down at Liverpool.

Wijnaldum has played 24 times for the French club in all competitions this term, contributing three goals and an assist.

In October last year, it was reported that Wijnaldum “hasn’t got the support of the South American players” at PSG.

And there has now been speculation that both Arsenal and Newcastle want to bring Wijnaldum back to the Premier League – but Football Insider has ruled out any potential deal to the Magpies.

Wijnaldum ‘is not interested’ in moving back to St James’ Park after the Premier League club ‘registered their interest’ in the midfielder.

The main reason for rejecting the Magpies is their position in the Premier League table with Wijnaldum having no interest in ‘playing for a team battling to avoid relegation’.

Wijnaldum is ‘open to offers’ from other Premier League clubs, though, after ‘several clubs have made contact’ about a January move.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright recently urged the Gunners to sign Wijnaldum if he becomes available in January.

Wright said earlier this month: “I saw Wijnaldum’s name [linked with Arsenal]. That would be amazing. A loan signing from PSG.

“Someone like that in the midfield. Of that experience. He is a Premier League winner. Just to help with the youngsters and a Sambi Lokonga just to keep it going.

“Then, they can add to the squad and, all of a sudden, Arsenal can start challenging and challenging seriously.”

Aston Villa icon Gabby Agbonlahor also reckons Wijnaldum would do a great job for Mikel Arteta’s side. He told Football Insider: “What a player. He would do a great job for Arsenal and be a huge signing.

“But he’s left Liverpool, who were in the Champions League, he’s gone to PSG who are in the Champions League.

“Does he want to go play for a team that are not in Europe? That’s the big thing and could put him off, to be honest.”
