Kevin Campbell has insisted that Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves is a “fine player” and if Arsenal sign him for €40m, it would be a “crazy” deal.

The 24-year-old established himself as a regular for Porto in 2014. He went onto play 93 times for them and he captained the Portuguese outfit when he was just 18.

Neves made the move to England in 2017 as he joined Wolves – who were in the Championship at the time – for a club-record fee of £15.8m.

The midfielder has played over 170 times for Wolves since then and he has regularly been one of their best performers.

It has been reported that Arsenal are interested in signing Neves. They hope to get the deal done for around €40m.

Campbell has told Football Insider that Arsenal would be getting a “brilliant midfielder” if they signed Neves:

“What a player he is. This is the crazy thing, he was never on my radar because as far as I am concerned Wolves would never sell him.

“Neves is a brilliant midfielder at a good age. He can hit them from outside the box as well. That is a rare talent. He is a fine player and at 24 he still has time to develop.

“There will be some big change at Wolves this summer and if Arsenal can sneak in a deal for Neves that would be great. I think £40million is a great price for him to be honest.”

Elsewhere, David Seaman has suggested that he feels a “little bit sorry” for Mikel Arteta:

“When you look at last season, finishing eighth, it’s very disappointing.

“It’s something that needs to be changed.

“I feel a little bit sorry for Arteta because he’s not got his own team yet, or his own squad. He’s inherited players from previous managers. But he’s got to coach those around him to get the best out of them.

“We saw with winning the FA Cup and then the Community Shield, I would call those bonuses, because that season wasn’t very good either. It’s the consistency that’s the problem.”
